| 2011 Australia 1oz Silver Gilded Koala NGC MS70 Early Releases
The 2011 Gilded Edition of the popular Australian Koala Silver Coin Series depicts an appealing new design highlighted in 24-carat gold. The koala is an internationally recognised symbol of Australia. An arboreal marsupial, it spends most of its time in trees. Inactive during the day, it feeds on the foliage of the eucalypt at night.
The koala is one of the few mammals, other than primates, that has fingerprints very similar to that of a human. Each coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1oz of 99.9% pure silver in specimen quality.
DESIGN
The reverse design depicts a mature koala and juvenile gilded in 24-carat gold, resting in the fork of a eucalyptus tree. The inscription AUSTRALIAN KOALA, the weight and fineness, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark also feature as part of the design. The coin's obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the year-date and monetary denomination. Each coin is issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. Like its sought-after 2008, 2009 and 2010 predecessors, the new coin is subject to a limited worldwide mintage of just 10,000.
