The third release in this stunning series features a spectacularly realistic portrayal of a surgeonfish.
The colourful surgeonfish can be found along the coast of Western Australia, and throughout the waters of the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland to northern New South Wales. The most distinguishing characteristics of this marine species are its amazing ability to change colour and its extremely sharp scutes, dorsal and anal fins – hence the name – surgeonfish.
The coin is struck by The Perth Mint from 1/2oz of 99.9% silver in proof quality, and issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965.
The Perth Mint will release no more than 10,000 of these coins worldwide.
DESIGN
The coin’s reverse depicts a surgeonfish in colour and includes The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark. Incorporated into the design are the inscriptions, AUSTRALIAN SEA LIFE II – THE REEF –SURGEONFISH.
The obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the 2012 year-date and the monetary denomination.
